Coeur d'Alene Meals on Wheels is asking for the public's help keeping their homebound clients cool this summer.
With temperatures nearing triple digits, many people are in need of a fan for their home.
“We did it last year too, and the community is so great,” said Kris Wright, Director of CDA Meals on Wheels.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, elderly people do not adjust as well as young people to sudden changes in temperature and are more likely to have a chronic medical condition that changes normal body responses to heat. They are also more likely to take prescription medicines that can impair the body's ability to regulate its temperature or prevent perspiration. All of these things put them at a higher risk for heat stroke, which can cause death or permanent disability.
Donations can be dropped off at the Lake City Senior Center at 1916 N Lakewood Drive between 8 am and 4 pm.
