The Community Library Network seeks to fill a recent Board of Trustee vacancy. The volunteer position requires a willingness to represent the public interest in libraries and establish effective working relationships with community leaders, library staff and fellow trustees. The term of the replacement position is through May 2015 and extended another four years if elected. The Board of Trustees consists of five members.
Those considering applying for the position should be a resident of the District, able to attend monthly and special meetings and spend about five to ten hours per month on District business. Board packet materials are sent electronically and Internet access is a necessity. Those over the age of 18 may apply. The Board is looking for a candidate that has a love of the library and is an advocate of intellectual freedom.
The Community Library Network employs 91 staff to serve 101,500 residents over 1,150 square miles in two counties with a budget of $4.8 million. Service points include community libraries at Athol, Harrison, Hayden, Pinehurst, Post Falls, Rathdrum, Spirit Lake and an Outreach Department. Harrison, with a population of 206, is the smallest community while Post Falls, with a population of 27,000, is the largest. There are 14 defined communities within the District. Eleven percent of the population exists below the poverty level.
