Post Falls Library welcomes acclaimed Turkish vocalist | Arts & Culture

Acclaimed Turkish folk vocalist Aysenur Kolivar will perform at the Community Library Network at Post Falls on Monday, April 21 at 6 p.m.
Kolivar researches and performs folk music from the Black Sea region in northern Turkey where she was born. Earlier in April, she and her ensemble began a journey to share this unique culture with audiences in schools, libraries, community centers, and concert halls in the Midwest, Pacific Northwest, and Alaska. Her tour brings her to Post Falls next week with a full performance at The Jacklin Arts & Cultural Center on Friday, April 25.
Bobbi Whatcott, the library’s program coordinator, said, “Her tour provides an amazing opportunity to connect with a leading scholar and performer and to discover the rich traditions of the Black Sea.”
Koliva is current PhD candidate in Musicology and Music Theory at Istanbul Technical University, where she also teaches Turkish language, She focuses her academic research on the cultures of the East Black Sea with an emphasis on women’s culture.
