Spokane Figure Skating Club receives award to help the community

The Spokane Figure Skating Club is one of just six skating clubs around the nation to receive a U.S. Figure Skating Community Development Grant. They have been awarded $2,000 to develop community-based programs designed to inspire new generations of figure skaters.

The club submitted a plan that will add up to three one-hour ice sessions per week as part of its Advanced Learn to Skate Program. Vice President of the Spokane Figure Skating Club, Dean Wiles, says the money will help keep costs down for skaters of all abilities and goals.

“The goal is to have affordable and enjoyable skating for everyone” Wiles said.

Upcoming Basic Skills Learn to Skate Classes will be $55 and are scheduled for

  • Tuesdays starting August 13th through Sept 10th – 5:30 to 6:15pm
  • Tuesdays starting Oct 1 through Oct 29th – 5:45 to 6:30pm
  • Saturdays starting Oct 5 through Nov 2nd – 11:15am to Noon

Advanced Learn to Skate lessons are during Freestyle sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. They cost $70 and include rental skates and freestyle admission.

The club is hoping to host their first competition at Frontier Ice Arena next March.
