Stranger pays down family's layaway account | Community Spirit
When Amanda Johnson went to the Post Falls Wal-Mart earlier this week to make a payment on her layaway account, she was worried that she wouldn’t be able to pay it down in time for Christmas. Her worry was replaced with pure joy when the cashier told her that a complete stranger had paid her bill.
“It’s just overwhelming,” said Amanda. The Wal-Mart employee explained that a woman had come into the store the day before and asked to pay down the layaway accounts of three strangers. For Amanda, having her $204.82 bill covered was a Christmas miracle.
“To me that’s exactly what it was,” said Amanda. After the bills are paid there isn’t much money left over in the Johnson household. Amanda has been making payments on her layaway since Halloween in hopes of having it paid off in time for Christmas.
Amanda was so touched by the generosity of a stranger that she decided to pay it forward. She took the money she had intended for a layaway payment and helped a customer who was buying baby items pay her bill.
Amanda said this will be a story that she and her family will share for their entire lives.
“A hundred times thank you,” said Amanda.
