Fire Department helps Coeur d'Alene go back to school | Events
From the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department:
The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department will stage at or near all Coeur d’Alene elementary schools on Tuesday, September 3rd. Our goal is to provide added awareness and alert drivers that children are returning to school.
The Fire Department emergency vehicles will have their emergency lights on to warn drivers to slow down in the area. Fire Department personnel will also assist children and parents to cross the busy streets.
The Coeur d’Alene Police Department CARE (Traffic team) and the School Resource Officers will be out in force with a traffic emphasis starting the first day of school and continue throughout the week. Officers will be patrolling the school zone areas while the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department helps children navigate their way across the marked crosswalks.
Officers plan to enforce zero tolerance for moving violations as well as failure to stop at crosswalks. Fines for speed violations are $156.50 due to penalties being enhanced in a school zone.
Drivers are asked to use caution on our roadways and neighborhoods, and anticipate children utilizing crosswalks as they are walking to and from schools.
Thank you for helping keep our children safe this year!
