Cougar spotted near elementary school | News
Heyburn Elementary School in St. Maries, Idaho was on high alert Tuesday afternoon after a cougar was spotted near the school.
The school immediately canceled all outdoor activities and practices that are held at the middle school and in the city park were either canceled or moved. Adults guarded the bus loading zones to make sure that all students boarded safely and parents were contacted to pick up students who normally walk home.
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game sent an officer to search for the cougar in the area. Due to the dry conditions, the officer is not able to use a dog to track the animal. If the cougar is found it will either be tranquilized or euthanized, depending on the situation.
