Northern Idaho sex offender gets 16 years | News
A northern Idaho man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison because prosecutors say he is a sex offender who was found with child pornography.
The Coeur d'Alene Press reports 39-year-old James Morales was sentenced Wednesday on three counts of child pornography and a probation violation. Prosecutors say his probation stemmed from his conviction in 2007 for sexual contact with a child.
Morales' defense attorney asked the judge to sentence Morales to a six month treatment program on the child pornography charges. But the judge declined, instead handing down the longer sentence recommended by Kootenai County Deputy Prosecutor Joshua Studor.
Prosecutors said Morales began downloading child pornography in 2012, immediately after his probation status was changed to unsupervised.
