Kootenai County Clerk dies | News
Kootenai County Clerk Clifford Hayes was found dead in his home on Thursday morning. The cause of death is unknown.
Married to his wife Jeanne for 36 years, Hayes was the father of five children. He moved to North Idaho in 1982 and was the Post Falls Police Chief for 22 years. In 2010 he was elected Kootenai County Clerk.
“His focus was doing what was best for the citizens of the county,” the Kootenai County Commissioners Office said in a press release. “We enjoyed working with him and we will miss him very much.”
Deputy Chief County Clerk Pat Raffee described Hayes as a great family man and true servant.
"He was very much a man of integrity," said Raffee. "He was very inspiring."
Raffee will take over the duties of County Clerk until an interim is appointed to fill the position. Voters will select a new County Clerk in 2014.
