Photo Gallery | NIC Trains Future Firefighters

North Idaho College and the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department are teaching the next generation of firefighters everything they need to know.

Fire Department Captain Bill Deruyter has been a firefighter for 22 years and says it's the best job in the world. Deruyter and other local firefighters use hands-on training in everything an emergency official should know.

Firefighting jobs are in high demand since there are not many new positions opening up.

The next Firefighter Academy starts in January of 2012 with limited enrollment.

Officials from three North Idaho fire districts are holding an informational session November 17th from 6 to 8 p.m. to answer questions about becoming a volunteer or paid firefighter.
